After the French and Indian war caused the British debt to almost double, but they still felt that it was still neccessary to keep 10,000 soldiers in the American territories. Keeping the soldiers in American colonies became expensive so King George III went to his financial advisor who decided that the colonists shoudl be paying for the soldiers themselves. This became the Sugar Acts.
